WORTHINGTON, Ind. – Registration is underway for the ninth annual Open Arms “On the Move” 5K Run/Walk” set for Saturday, June 5 at the Worthington Town Park.
Proceeds from this year’s event will assist with the operations at Open Arm’s Christian Ministries two campuses at Switz City and Lyons.
The 5K run will be a chip-timed race Magnificent 7 (Mag 7) sanctioned race series. Founded in 1997, the Mag 7 Series markets and promotes more than 25 road races in seven counties in south-central Indiana – including Greene, Monroe, Morgan, Lawrence, Orange, Owen and Brown. This event is a “points race” for the Mag 7 series.
There will be a competitive 5K walk, as well as a 1-mile family run/walk. The in town course, begins and ends at the Worthington Town Park. The course is flat and competitive for all age levels, according to Community Relations Director Nick Schneider.
“Open Arms is proud to be able to offer this race and we appreciate the runners and walkers who support this event every year and by doing so, they support our growing ministry,” Schneider said. “We also thank our wonderful group of sponsors who make this event a reality.”
Early race entry fee is $20 per person with a $25 per person registration fee on the day of the race.
In the 5K run, medals will be awarded to best overall racer, as well as the first and second place finishers in each age category for male and females.
Cost of the Kid’s Fun Run is $10 per person and does not include a t-shirt. A shirt can be purchased for $10.
There is also a virtual run opportunity available for those who can actually run the 5K or the 1 mile walk at any time or any place they want. Register just the same as the regular race, but attendance on race day is not necessary and they can still support Open Arms’ ministry.
Registration begins at 7 a.m. with 5K Run/Walk Race at 8 am; followed by the Family Walk/Run at 8:15 am. The Kids Fun Run will begin at 9 am
Run/walk categories will be ages 14 and under; age 15-19; age 20-29; age 30-39; age 40-49; age 50-59; age 60-69; and age 70 and over. Kid’s runs will be conducted in the following age groups: age 4 and under (one lap around the park), ages 5-8 (two laps around the park); and ages 9-12 (four laps around the park, about 1-mile).
There will be a special award presented to the group that enters the largest number of participants.
There are a host of give-a-ways that will be offered to participating runners and walkers.

Open Arms Family and Education Services, also known as Open Arms Christian Ministries, has campuses near Switz City and in Lyons, both located in Greene County. The 35-year-old non-profit agency operates the Miriam Home for Girls, the HEbron Home for Boys; administers foster care/adoption services; and offers students at the Turning Point Education Center (TPEC) high school equivalency classes and testing, as well as a variety of adult vocational education classes.
