New mural in 12 Points aims to spark conversations surrounding mental health

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – New murals are popping up all over town, and another one was unveiled Monday on the side of a building on Lafayette Ave. in 12 Points.

Terre Haute Mayor Duke Bennett was in attendance for the unveiling. The mural is sponsored by Team of Mercy, and the money was raised for it within 48 hours by community members through a fundraiser on Facebook.

The new business, ‘Ferm Fresh’ donated all of their tips from the first weekend they were open to Team of Mercy; that accounted for over $500 raised.

Local organizers said they hope the mural starts conversations about the stigma surrounding mental health.

“And then individuals that know who Team of Mercy are, and what we do, we are hoping that as they come up or as they see this, that they know that we really do have a heart for the community, and if and when they should need help, that they come and they reach out and they make those phone calls or they make the trip up here to take the picture, it gets conversation started,” Team of Mercy Executive Director, Christina Crist said.

Those with Team of Mercy said the mural is dedicated to the community.
