TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)– A new statue has been added to the Markle Mill Dam site.
This statue represents a guardian angel looking over Otter Creek where the dam used to be. This statue consists of an angel surrounded by otters and other wildlife.
This is the first of many changes the city is planning to do to this area to make it more family friendly. Vigo County Commissioner, Mark Clinkenbeard, explains what their vision is for this area.
“I think we’re making improvements on here where people will be able to come out and enjoy it. We’re going to put some more picnic tables out here, a better parking lot, continue to add to the playground and just make it a nice place here on the north end for people to enjoy,” he said.
Clinkenbeard also wanted to shout out the Society of Trash Baggers, as the sculptor along with all of the main people that made this statue possible are all a part of this group that is constantly trying to improve the quality of life in Terre Haute.
“This wouldn’t have been possible without the support from this group. This group has been making this community better for many years and this just adds to that. Their drive to always making sure this city is as clean as they can possibly make it, makes this city what it is,” added Clinkenbeard.
This statue was paid for out of pocket, and they are asking for donations in order to pay him back for his good service. The link to their GoFundMe is located here.
