TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — A local foster care agency says there’s a big need in the area for more foster homes.

According to Indiana Mentor Foster Care Agency Licensing Specialist Tammy Robinson, Indiana currently has about 6,000 foster homes. But, she says there are currently more than 13,000 children in Indiana that need a home.

A foster parent must be at least 21 years old, pass a background check, and have a home that will be safe and comfortable for a child. Robinson says foster parents also need to have a desire to make a difference in the lives of children in need.

“These children need a home,” Robinson said. “They need someone that wants to care for them and love them and provide a home for them that can help change their lives.”

If you are interested in becoming a foster parent, you can get ahold of the agency by phone at (812) 281-0056, or visit their office located at 500 E. Springhill Drive, Suite F in Terre Haute.
