TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – Thrive West Central designed an app that will provide a comprehensive map of the parks and trails here in West Central Indiana.
What makes this app unique is that it shows features like water access points, bathrooms and trail heads.
Alex Brown from Thrive West Central said that this app will provide more than what a basic map could.
“That’s the idea that it’s not just about trails,” Brown said. “It’s really about helping people more comprehensively enjoy all that our region has to offer.”
The app was released shortly before many college move-in dates. Brown says that this was strategic, as he hopes the app will attract new people to the outdoors.
“That’s something that we’re going to be working on this coming week is doing some outreach to the universities,” Brown explained. “Whether they’re from here or from somewhere else, we hop that they will take advantage of the app and enjoy our trails.”
Laura Fredendall is psychologist and an avid runner who frequently uses trails in the area. She said that the app could potentially help her find new areas to run at.
Fredendall continued by saying her love for running is important for her overall health.
“It’s essential to my physical well-being,” Fredendall said. “It really helps me psychologically and it’s a big part of my physical health routine.”
The thought of newcomers to the area intrigued Fredendall as she said that it’s exciting to potentially have the opportunity to share trails with others who like the outdoors.
“It’s great that newcomers and new students moving to the area to have a chance to explore all the wonderful county parks and city parks we have,” Fredendall said.
West Central Indiana has dozens of parks to offer to residents and visitors, but Brown hopes that this app enhance the region for all.
“This going to make our region more of an attraction and more of destionation fore outdoor enthusiasts and casual trail users,” Brown said.
The app is available in the App Store and the Google Play store.
