MEROM, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Area elementary students stepped into Nature’s Classroom Wednesday.
Fourth graders from Southwest School Corp. traveled to Merom Camp and Retreat Center to learn more about Indiana history and science for the first day of the annual event.
The three-day experimental learning program promotes several team and character building skills through activities such as daily hiking and plant identification.
“Nature’s Classroom is a wonderful chance for these kids to get out into nature and learn school activities but out in nature,” said Deanne Norris, Sullivan Elementary School teacher. We get our math, we get to do some cooking, they also get to work together on projects so they have to work together. We have Indiana history they get to learn out here, and they get to have activities like recess. They get to have a lot of playtime.”
Nature’s Classroom will continue through Friday.
