EVANSVILLE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)– A South Carolina man who was involved in a manhunt this past week in Lawrenceville, Illinois was apprehended by police in Evansville on Friday.
Johnathan Torell Kelly was wanted on several charges, including murder, connected to an incident in South Carolina. This past Monday, the Lawrenceville Police Department spent several hours searching for Kelly after they received a tip that he was in the area. While they arrested another man in connection with the case, police were unable to locate Kelly.
According to a release from the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Department, multiple law enforcement agencies, including Indiana State Police and the United State Marshal Regional Task Force, learned Kelly may be in the Evansville area. Through further investigation, the USMS located the suspect at a residence at the 2500 block of Pollack Ave.
Just before 10:30 p.m. Friday night, the Evansville Police Department’s SWAT team responded to the residence, and Kelly surrendered without incident. He is being held at the Vanderburgh County Jail and is awaiting extradition to South Carolina. Charges include murder, kidnapping, possession of a weapon during a violent crime and possession of a weapon by a convicted felon.
