CLAY COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Update: Texting and driving led to a three-car crash that has caused delays in traffic along I-70W in Clay County.
According to ISP Sgt. Matt Ames, the crash occurred near the 27 mile marker of I-70 westbound.
Sgt. Ames said the crash was caused by a distracted driver who had been texting while driving and hadn’t noticed that traffic ahead had slowed due to a construction zone near mile marker 23.
The first vehicle rear-ended a second vehicle, which was then pushed into a third vehicle. The driver that was texting has been cited as a result. Police said there were no serious injuries to anyone involved.
Due to the crash, traffic was shut down for a time. As of 3 p.m. all lanes have been re-opened.
Police remind drivers to be alert while driving and to never text and drive.
