PARKE COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO) — One person died in a crash following a police pursuit Friday night.

According to a report from the Parke County Sheriff’s Department, 31-year-old Stephen David Kellams of Terre Haute died after he lost control of his 2015 black Harley-Davidson motorcycle and hit a guardrail.

Just before 7 p.m. Friday, a deputy attempted to stop Kellams, who was traveling north on U.S. Highway 41 near CR 900 South in Parke County. Kellams was moving at a high rate of speed.

Kellams ignored the deputy, resulting in a pursuit. Once he reached CR 600 West, he lost control of the motorcycle and hit a guardrail.

Kellams was pronounced dead at the scene.

Following the crash, deputies closed Highway 41 from the bottom of Daily Hill to Coxville Road last night.

No other information has been released.
