VERMILLION COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – A dangerous intersection is now safer thanks to some new signage and a slower speed limit.

On Wednesday the speed limit at the intersection between SR-63 and SR-234 was reduced from 55 to 45.

New signage to indicate a school zone is also in place near the entrance to North Vermillion High and Elementary Schools. The signs are intended to make people aware of the pedestrian walkway.

Vermillion County Commissioner RJ Dunavan was pleased with the recent changes and sent us the following statement.

First and foremost, I’m very happy to see INDOT make some changes recently, including the reduction of speed limits through the intersection. Although I believe more drastic changes need to be done, I’m happy to see short term changes in the meantime. This community has not seen any major improvements for over 20 years and I will continue to fight for meaningful and lasting change for the citizens of this community. I look forward to working with INDOT on making sure this intersection gets the safety improvements it deserves, no matter the cost.

RJ Dunavan, Vermillion County Commissioner

Back in June, flashing lights were installed at the intersection to warn drivers to be cautious.
