VINCENNES, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — A former Knox County correctional officer is facing multiple charges following a complaint by an inmate.
Malyk Jawaun Johnson, 23, of Montgomery, Indiana was accused of sexually assaulting a female inmate while transporting her from Henderson, Kentucky back to the Vincennes facility, according to Indiana State Police.
The inmate reported the incident to her attorney, who then contacted the Knox County Prosecutor’s Office. The Knox County Sheriff’s Office was unaware of the incident until the prosecutor’s office was notified.
Johnson was arrested Wednesday and charged with sexual battery, official misconduct and trafficking with an inmate. He was transported to the Pike County Jail where he is being held on bond.
“Effective this day, the jail officer is no longer employed by the Knox County Sheriff’s Office,” Sheriff Doug Vantlin said in a written statement.
