MATTOON, Ill. (WTWO/WAWV) — The Last Chance Tri, the Mattoon area’s largest triathlon, is returning this summer according to an announcement from the local YMCA. 

The Last Chance Try will take place on September 24th at the Mattoon YMCA, in which participants will have to swim 275 yards, bike 12 miles, and run 3.1 miles either as individuals or in teams of two or three. The swimming portion of the race will be held at the indoor pool at the Mattoon Area Family YMCA, and the biking and running portions will also start and end at the YMCA.

“We see participants of all ages and abilities at the Last Chance Tri,” said Race Director, Sarah Dowell. “Every year we are so inspired by our triathletes” Dowell added. 

Those interested in participating can register for the event through September 23 and all of those who register by August 31 are guaranteed to receive a tech shirt. The registration dates and costs are as follows:

  • Through September 16:
    • Individuals: $65
    • Teams: $150
  • September 17 – 23:
    • Individuals: $70
    • Teams: $165
  • Race Day (September 24):
    • Individuals: $75
    • Teams: $180
