VERMILLION COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — A Marshall man has been arrested after police say he led them on a pursuit at speeds of 108mph.
According to the Vermillion County Sheriff, deputies had been watching the St. Bernice area due to complaints from residents of reckless driving. A deputy spotted a pick-up truck driving at speeds in excess of 50 mph in a 30 mph zone as it headed southbound on SR 71.
The sheriff said after the deputy activated their emergency lights the truck sped up, eventually reaching a speed of 108 mph.
The truck eventually came to a stop just north of Blanford. Deputies then placed the driver, Chad N. Brooks, 46, of Marshall under arrest.
Deputies reported Brooks showed signs of intoxication, but the man refused to submit to a chemical test.
Brooks was then taken to the Vermillion County Jail and preliminarily charged with the following;
- Resisting law enforcement
- A level 6 felony
- Criminal recklessness
- A class C misdemeanor
- Operating a vehicle while intoxicated (refusal)
- A class C misdemeanor
- Operating a vehicle while intoxicated (endangerment)
- A class A misdemeanor
Brooks was released after posting a $10,000 bond with 10% allowed following the mandatory hold to allow him to sober up.
