TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — A short pursuit took place near Union Hospital around noon on Monday after a suspect requested to be taken to the hospital during an arrest and then attempted to escape.
According to Sgt. Justin Sears with the Terre Haute Police Department, Criss V. Nelson was arrested earlier in the day, around 10:30 a.m., for outstanding warrants including burglary and escape.
Sears noted that while Nelson was being placed under arrest, “Criss complained of heart conditions and was transported to Union Hospital to be cleared medically to go to jail.”
It was while law enforcement and Nelson were entering Union Hospital that Nelson “broke free from officers and attempted to escape while handcuffed.”
Nelson was taken back into custody shortly after the foot chase.
