KNOX COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Authorities released the name of a man killed late Thursday night in a crash in Knox County.

Shortly after midnight, Indiana State Police and Knox County Sheriff’s Office responded to a single vehicle crash on Bicknell Road near Summers Road that claimed the life of a 60-year-old James Staggs of Bicknell.

A preliminary investigation revealed Staggs was driving a pickup west on Bicknell Road just east of Summers Road when, for unknown reasons, the vehicle left the roadway, rolled and came to a final rest in a deep ditch.

Staggs was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected from the vehicle. He was pronounced dead at the scene by the Knox County Coroner’s Office. A dog was also killed in the crash.

The investigation is on-going.
