PARKE COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — A man was killed in a motorcycle crash early Wednesday morning after fleeing from a Parke County deputy attempting a traffic stop.

The victim was identified Friday as 22-year-old Dawson Layne Beck of Waveland, Indiana, according to Parke County Sheriff Justin Cole.

A deputy attempted to pull over the Beck’s motorcycle in the area of US Hwy 36 and State Road 59. Instead of stopping, the Beck “accelerated at a high rate of speed” causing the deputy to lose sight of the motorcycle.

While checking the area, the deputy located debris in the roadway at US 36 and Seip Road. He then found the motorcycle and Beck laying in a ditch. The deputy attempted lifesaving treatment until other emergency personnel arrived at the scene; however, the driver was pronounced dead.

An autopsy performed Wednesday morning at Regional Hospital in Terre Haute determined Beck died from injuries sustained in the crash. Toxicology results are still pending.
