TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Local volunteers are collecting supplies that they will deliver to a Kentucky town devasted by tornadoes that ripped through the area overnight Friday.

Brent Sappingfield organized the event and said he is hoping to fill two trucks full of supplies before making the trip.

Donations from the community will be accepted Thursday through Saturday in the parking lot at the Big Lots location on South US Hwy. 41 in Terre Haute. This drop off location has changed from what was previously reported. Items needed include:

  • Bottled water
  • Gatorade
  • Non-perishable food items
  • Cleaning supplies
  • Paper products
  • Trash bags
  • Gloves
  • Flashlights
  • Batteries
  • Candles
  • Matches
  • Rain ponchos
  • Blankets
  • First aid kits
  • Totes with lids
  • Rakes, shovels and brooms
  • Duct tape
  • Tarps
