VINCENNES Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – Helping His Hands is sending five to eight volunteers early this week to aid in Tennessee’s recovery from its tonados Monday evening.
Executive Director of Helping His Hands Scott Shipman said a second wave of volunteers, and possibly more, will head south this week to begin recovery and clean-up efforts.
He said along with the crews, construction equipment and home goods will be sent to families who may have been misplaced by the storms.
Recent volunteer Lloyd Overton said this is only his second mission, but he will help in any way he can.
“These people’s lives have been turned up down side down so if we can go in and help just a little bit in a few days and try to come up for a plan for long-term it’ll be great for them.”
Overton has carpentry skills that will be useful in helping families take the first step into rebuilding their lives.
“I’ve always wanted to help people and this door has opened for me to do that.”
