Local News

VINCENNES, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Members of the Rolling Thunder Illinois Chapter 3 are inviting community members to join them on Sept. 17 for this year’s “Missouri Vietnam Wall Run”.

The group will leave Vincennes, Ind. the morning of Sept. 17 and make stops throughout Illinois as they travel to Perryville, Mo. There, participants will be able to see a full scale replica of the Vietnam Memorial Wall in Washington, D.C.

Those who attend can pay respects to the veterans of the war and honor POWs and those missing in action. Rolling Thunder Illinois Chapter 3 spokesperson Jim Williams said it means a lot to the group to take part in this event with the community.

“You roll into a town and people are standing out there with flags and waving,” Williams said. “Can’t describe the feeling, it just takes your heart.”

Tony Schmidt, president of Rolling Thunder Illinois Chapter 3, said that he believes there is power in numbers.

“You’ve got that many patriots that are there for you, and for all those other Americans that have not made it home yet,” Schmidt said. “It’s an unbelievable feeling.”

Anyone wanting to participate in the event or that has questions and needs more information can call Jim Williams at (812) 887-6515.
