SULLIVAN, Ind. (WAWV/WTWO) – Two local organizations have taken steps to raise mental health advocacy during Mental Health Awareness Month.

Team of Mercy Sullivan County and Heart of Sullivan teamed up to host their annual End This Together 5K and Stand Against Suicide events.

Over five Sullivan businesses worked to fund the event.

A total of 45 race participants and 60 volunteers held signs to end the stigma of suicide.

Lisa Stepro with Team of Mercy said the positive response and turnout from the community means the county looks to move in a positive direction.

“It shows the momentum is going and that there are lots of people that are interested in our efforts,” Stepro said. “The schools are interested and some of the churches are as well, there’s just a lot of positive things going on in this community.”

Proceeds from the event will toward mental health resource expansion in Sullivan County.
