TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)– One local organization is asking for your help as they look to positively impact the environment in the Wabash Valley.

Rethink Inc. is currently applying for a grant through the Environmental Protection Agency that can help develop programs meant to help increase recycle rates. The organization is hosting several Zoom calls open for the public to give their input on what they think is needed around the community.

The first forum was held on Saturday. Executive director Shikha Bhattacharyya encouraged residents to give any feedback they have on an issue she believes is crucial.

“It is extremely important for us to think about waste, to reduce waste, it’s not just something that’s out of sight, out of mind,” she said. “We can’t forget about it, not anymore. it’s creating a lot of damage.”

The minimum amount available through the grant is $250,000. Bhattacharyya said she is aiming for more– but the final total is currently fluid. The next forum will be on Thursday, Jan. 12th, at 10 a.m. More information can be found on the organization’s Facebook page.
