TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – Manufacturing jobs are heading to the Wabash Valley.
The manufacturing industry is seeing movement with companies creating new jobs in the area. Among those hiring is Saturn PetCare in Vigo County which is working to keep up with global demand for its pet food products.
“It’s exciting because now, one of our biggest customers is in Germany,” Saturn PetCare HR Director Trudie Diaz-Farmer said. “One of our biggest partners and actually find our product on the shelf that say mad in the U.S.A. People are going to be proud it’s made in Terre Haute Indiana.”
Dr. Robert Guell, economics professor at Indiana State University, said manufacturing is generally part of a healthy economy and being able to serve other communities with products help boost the economy locally.
“Any entity that brings in new jobs. That is growing and creating new revenue to the community,” Dr. Guell said. “It’s going to create tax revenue in the community. It’s going to create property tax and revenue in the community.”
As companies invest in themselves, they’ll bring on new staff as well. Novelis recently announced a $7 million investment into its Terre Haute plant as the company returns to the household foil market. This investment will bring up to 37 new jobs to Terre Haute.
“It’s a huge benefit for the community,” Novelis plant manager Ryan Smith said. “That investment that Novelis has done, it provides that opportunity for local employees to really get a job and stay close to family.”
