TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Local law enforcement departments paired with Indiana State University to raise funds for the Special Olympics.
Tuesday evening, the Tip a Cop fundraising event was hosted at Texas Roadhouse. Law enforcement officers and department personnel volunteered their time as celebrity waiters to collect tips from customers. One hundred percent of their tips will be donated to Special Olympics through the Annual Polar Plunge of Terre Haute.
“That money helps those athletes to come to Terre Haute in the summer for summer games. Helps pay for their housing, their food, anything else that they may need,” Indiana State University Officer Jacquelyn Smith said.
“It’s just a great cause and we’re all happy to be here and participate. And help raise funds,” Indiana State University Police Chief Michele Barrett said.
The Polar Plunge will be this Saturday, February 25th on ISU’s campus, at the Student Recreation Center. Registration will be held from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. with the plunge set to begin at noon.
