TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – A local hospital system is ending the COVID-19 vaccine mandate as a condition for employment.

The change comes after the Department of Health and Human Services lifted the federal requirement for healthcare workers to get the vaccine.

Union Health responded to the change, saying the hospital lifted its policy that required COVID-19 vaccination as a condition of employment, or requirement, to provide services within the healthcare system.

However, Union Hospital also noted that it will still encourage employees to remain up-to-date with COVID-19 vaccinations.
