SULLIVAN COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Local children in Sullivan County are doing their part to help their neighbors as tornado recovery continues.
Students at Northeast East Elementary School in Hymera raised $700 to help tornado victims in Sullivan County.
Principal Sarah Hannon said when the students heard about the tornado they wanted to do something to help. Hannon said they raised money through various fun events like hat day and pajama day.
Hannon added that the students are already thinking of other ways to help throughout the year.
“Most of them just want to give their money, we have kids bringing money from their piggy banks and things, not just dollar bills from their mom and dad so they’re always thinking of ideas to give. They’re a very giving community,” Hannon said,
The money raised will go to the Wabash Valley Community Foundation which has established a fund specifically to help with tornado relief in Sullivan County.
