SULLIVAN, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – Local families can now enjoy a good book while waiting at the laundromat.

The United Way of the Wabash Valley unveiled a Family Read, Play and Learn Nook at Sullivan Laundry Center on Wednesday.

The nook is equipped with table and chairs, a book stand, a washable rug, 50 start-up books, and a 1-year subscription to update the collection with 20 books a month.

The United Way’s Success by 6 and Strong Neighborhood Impact Councils are behind the effort.

“These nooks provide a welcoming and literacy focused environment to entertain children. In the future, we hope to partner with local libraries and organizations to continuously provide literacy activities to these local communities,” says Strong Neighborhoods Co-Chair Carey LaBella.

A literacy nook has also been installed at Courtesy Cleaners on Wabash Avenue in Terre Haute and a nook will be installed soon at Archer Avenue Dry Cleaning and Laundry in Marshall, Illinois.

The United Way is looking to install more nooks. Interested community members can call the United Way at 812-235-6287.
