TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Vigo County Public Library will transition to reusable bags in an effort to reduce waste in the community.

On average, the Library provides 14,000 plastic bags to customers each year. Beginning late January, all Vigo County Public Library cardholders will receive one eco-friendly bag at checkout. Customers may purchase additional bags for $1.

The 2019-2023 Strategic Plan process included multiple listening sessions and community surveys that allowed VCPL to gain important feedback from Library customers. These survey responses indicated residents of Vigo County expect the Library to be a leader of positive change and sustainable initiatives within the Wabash Valley.

For more information about VCPL’s Reduce Waste Campaign and the transition to reusable bags, please contact the Library at (812) 232-1113 or visit www.vigo.lib.in.us/reducewaste.
