TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — The legacy of a local artist who had an impact on many people in the community will be celebrated this weekend.
The First Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Terre Haute will hold a celebration of John Laska’s legacy this Friday and Saturday.
The free event will take place at 7:00 p.m. both nights at the church, which is located at 1875 Fruitridge Avenue.
His daughter-in-law, Cathie Laska, said this event is made possible through a fund created by John Laska’s friend, Dr. James Conyers.
Laska also said everyone is invited to celebrate Laska who was an artist, art teacher, and social activist.
“Some of the people that are going to be here were former students of his. They all kind of went into art. They were pretty successful artists themselves,” Cathie Laska said. “Whether he was your teacher or whether you liked his art, or you didn’t even know who he was, [this event] is definitely open to everyone.”
Laska asks people interested in attending to call the church at 812-917-0030 to make a reservation.
