TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — The League of Women Voters will turn 100 this year, and the City of Terre Haute joined in the celebration.

Mayor Duke Bennett gave a proclamation in the group’s honor Monday.

The non-partisan group said it does not campaign for a specific group or political party, and instead encourages everyone to be part of the democratic process.

“We were also founded in 1920 a few months after the national was founded,” Carolyn Callecod, Vigo County chapter president said. “And through the years, we always encouraged people to be part of the democratic process.”

The official date of the founding was Feb. 14.
