Jury trial for Tanoos’ bribery case moved to 2022

INDIANAPOLIS (WTWO/WAWV) — A motion for continuance filed by lawyers representing Former Vigo County School Corporation Superintendent Danny Tanoos was granted in Marion County Court Tuesday, moving Tanoos’ jury trial date to Feb. 7, 2022.

The bribery case’s trial will now be pushed back further from the original Sept. 20 date. It has been pending in Marion County Superior Court 30 since Sept. 2018.

Jennifer Lukemeyer and James Voyles, Tanoos’ attorneys, have previously filed motions to dismiss charges brought against him and transfer the case to the Indiana Supreme Court that were both denied. In Mar. 2020, the case was postponed by a Marion County judge due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Tanoos is facing three counts of bribery, two as a Level 5 felony and one as a Class C felony, stemming from a criminal case filed in Sept. 2018. A comment on Tanoos’ online case file says no further continuances will be granted.
