TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Homecoming week is officially underway at Indiana State University.

The Sycamores have lots of fun activities planned throughout the week and are excited to welcome alumni back to campus. Students will take part in a wide variety of festivities leading up to Saturday’s main event.

On Saturday the blue and white parade will take place at 9 a.m. starting at 9th and Wabash. Individual colleges on campus will also have open houses from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m.

Then, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., people will be able to socialize and enjoy good food at Sycamore Village. It all leads up to the homecoming football game against Youngstown State at 1 p.m.

Homecoming was cancelled last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, so ISU is looking forward to welcoming everyone back.

“Most of colleges and universities around the country, around the globe really, had to skip homecoming activities so this year makes it even more special so we’re very excited that homecoming is back,” Alumni Association spokesperson Rex Kendall said.

“The theme this year is the return of the legends,” Cassidy Madison, president of the Union Board and ISU senior, said. “We wanted to go with that because we are returning and we did have a hectic year due to COVID and we’re so happy for our Sycamores and Sycamore family, as well as alumni, to come back.”

“One of the events that I’m really looking forward to is the parade just because in previous years I’ve always been a student standing on the sidelines kind of looking but now being able to be behind the scenes and being able to prepare for the parade and watch everyone go through that’s one of the events I’m really excited for,” senior Darci Leonard said.

On Sunday, following homecoming festivities, ISU will hold an event called “Homecleaning” from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. Volunteers will clean up Wabash Avenue from campus to memorial stadium.
