TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Over 1,000 local middle schoolers got to take a field trip today to a college basketball game.

Indiana State University welcomed just under 1,300 6th graders to Hulman Center for Education Day.

The students, from middle schools in both Vigo and Clay counties, attended an ISU women’s basketball game.

The students got to interact with the team, and after the game the students took bus tours around ISU’s campus.

“As a young student, you want to get them to campus as much as possible,” ISU Athletic Director Sherard Clinkscales said. “Indiana State University is such a wonderful place to get an education and we want to make sure that our students at home are familiar with Indiana State. What better place, what better time to do that than at a basketball game?”

ISU began holding Education Day last year with the goal of creating community partnerships and introducing students to the university.
