TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — On Wednesday, Indiana State University celebrated National First-Gen College Student Day.

They invited students from Vigo County schools to hear from a panel of Sycamores who are first-generation college students. The Vigo County students also got a tour of campus and could explore the resources ISU offers.

Dr. Tiffany Reed is the Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs and Inclusion and she gave an explanation of the purpose of this event.

“The goal of today’s program is to dismantle any fear, any anxiety, and especially any barriers so that all students in the Vigo County area know that ISU is a school that they can choose to help them know that they can be first gen and proud here,” Reed said.

National First-Gen College Student Day is celebrated every year on November 8.
