TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — An inmate was found unresponsive at 9:30 p.m. Friday at the Terre Haute Federal Prison, according to a news release from the facility.
Officials said staff performed emergency medical services on Stephen Dwayne Cannada. He was pronounced dead by EMS personnel.
The FBI was notified and no other staff or inmates were injured or in danger at the time of the incident.
Cannada was a 47-year-old male who was sentenced in the Eastern District of Texas to a 99-month sentence for Possession with Intent to Distribute Methamphetamine.
He had been in custody at USP Terre Haute since Sept. 3.
