TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Drivers can expect less room to maneuver on busy S 3rd Street in downtown Terre Haute soon.

INDOT announced beginning Dec. 5, a portion of US 41 (S 3rd Street) will be restricted down to two lanes between the hours of 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.

The affected portion of S 3rd Street runs from Poplar Street to Idaho Street. The restrictions are to allow crews room to replace a number of old light poles.

Weather permitting, work is expected to wrap up at the beginning of March. The project will replace 53 decorative lighting poles and wiring.

“Duke is actually replacing over 50 of these decorative light poles along that stretch of US 41,” INDOT Public Relations Director Megan Delucenay said. “So they’re going to be at different locations every day, so just kind of be aware, keep that in the back of your mind.”

“Especially in the winter months, it gets dark early and some of this work is happening past when the sun will go down so that can create some visibility issues, so just kind of keep that in the back of your mind, be cautious,” Delucenay added.

INDOT asks drivers to slow down, use caution, and consider worker safety when traveling through this work zone.
