TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) —  A new indoor archery range is opening in the Haute City Center later this month.

Straight Shooter Archery and Range offers something for everyone, no matter the level of experience with the sport. While only verticle bows are allowed in the indoor range, there’s a possibility for an outdoor range in the spring that will allow the use of crossbows. The 10-lane, indoor range will be monitored by certified instructors and is ADA accessible.

“We’re just here to help the public and give the community what they’re looking for,” said Jack Patterson, owner of Straight Shooter Archery.

Offering all types of bows for purchase or rentals, personalized bow setting and customization, and a safe environment for people to learn and enjoy the sport, Patterson encourages families to try out the new range or spend time relaxing in the shop’s lounge.

“If families want to come in they can watch a movie, hang out, have some free coffee. That’s one of the reasons we chose the mall. We wanted to have something where it’s not intimidating for anyone to walk in. Whether they’re a pro or whether they’re a novice, we’re here to take care of their needs,” Patterson explained.

Welcoming people of all levels of experience to the range, Patterson expressed an interest in getting local schools involved with the sport.

“We also want to reach out, get kids more active and into the sport. We wanted to really get involved with kids, and get archery programs into schools. Start the next generation of archers,” added Patterson.

The range comes with a strict set of rules and several certified and trained instructors that will assist anyone that may need help.

“They can safely teach the sport and educate the kids on the proper techniques and proper use of a bow,” Patterson said.

With a life-long background in archery, Patterson bought his first bow at 17 and has been in love with the sport since. As Straight Shooter Archery is a family business, all members are involved, but Patterson’s daughter helps run the company and designed its logo.

“This is something that has been a passion of mine for many, many years. It’s been a dream of ours for a long time,” Patterson added.

A ribbon-cutting event was held on Nov. 14 to announce the opening of the range. For more information on the services offered, hours, and contact information, visit the Straight Shooter Archery website.
