VIGO COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Indiana’s future teachers are receiving support as they get ready to pursue their educations.

The Indiana Commission for Higher Education awarded 200 scholarships for the Next Generation Hoosier Educators program. Recipients will receive $7,500 annually for committing to teaching in Indiana for at least five years after graduating college.

A number of Wabash Valley students received this scholarship including Terre Haute North senior Olivia Effner.

“I was really inspired by my current history teachers. History is by far my favorite subject and I just really wanted to follow in their footsteps. They had a big impact on me,” said Effner.

Effner will be attending Indiana University.

“I am in the Inspire LLC at IU and that is a dorm full of future educators and I can’t wait to spend time with them all and hear their stories.”

Fellow Terre Haute North senior Faith Southard also received the scholarship. Southard will be attending Indiana State University.
