Over 100 participants ran the blocks of the Historic 12-Points Neighborhood, as well as other notable parks and neighborhoods to raise money for 12-Points Revitalization as well as the Collette Park Neighborhood Association.
The inaugural Rock the Block 5K took participants through Collette Park, around Maple Ave Nature Park, and continued through historic neighborhoods before finishing back at 12-Points.
Every three-quarters of a mile, runners came across a musician.
Coordinator Mark Baker said it’s important to host events in which local artists, businesses, and organizations can show the community what they have to offer.
“I think we can hopefully build on this and get more musicians throughout the course, and more participants,” Barker said. “We can make it bigger and better and maybe even follow it with a little bit of a festival next year.”
Barker said the next upcoming event for the Collette Park Neighborhood Association will be October 14 for a free movie night at the park.
