CHARLESTON, Ill. (WTWO/WAWV) — An 18-year-old woman is facing charges in Illinois related to an attack on a pregnant person.

According to the Charleston Police Department, Maqaila A. White, 18, faces a class 3 felony charge of aggravated battery with a modifier that the victim had been a pregnant person.

Police said the charges relate to an incident that occurred on September 27, when White reportedly went to the victims residence and began to yell at her, grab her by her hair and kicked her in her stomach and back.

White reportedly fled the scene before police arrived, however officers would locate White a few days later and place her under arrest without further incident.

A search of Illinois court records shows that White appeared in Coles County court initially on Sep. 29, as well as appearing for a status hearing on October 5.

During that hearing White reportedly entered a plea of not guilty. White is next due in court for a status hearing at 9 a.m. on November 9.
