SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WTWO/WAWV) — Illinois’s Secretary of State is reminding drivers to move over and follow Scott’s Law for the safety of emergency responders.
Scott’s Law was designed to protect law enforcement officers and emergency vehicles stopped on the roadside.
So far in 2021, there have been 10 incidents involving state troopers being hit due to drivers not pulling over.
Secretary of State Jesse White’s office said the law was designed to protect those who help protect the community.
“If you’re on a crowded interstate or a crowded highway and you can’t move over to the other lane, we just ask that you slow down and drive cautiously,” said Henry Haupt, with Secretary White’s office.
