EDGAR COUNTY, Ill. (WTWO/WAWV) — An IDOT worker discovered a days-old fatal motorcycle crash in Edgar County Tuesday.
According to the Edgar County Coroner’s Office, the crash was discovered just after noon on Tuesday when a caller identifying themselves as an IDOT worker explained they had stopped their vehicle along Illinois Route 1 when they had spotted a broken telephone box lying in a ditch and discovered a dead man and a motorcycle in the nearby cornfield.
The incident reportedly was found about 1 mile north of 1800th Road.
Units from the Edgar County Sheriff’s Office as well as Illinois State Police and the Edgar County Coroner responded to the scene. Investigators determined that the motorcycle had been headed north on Route 1 when for an unknown reason the bike crossed the southbound lane, entered a ditch and struck a telephone box before continuing into the cornfield and ejecting the rider.
The coroner identified the man as 48-year-old Josh E. Musser of Dana, Indiana. According to the coroner when notifying family and friends, it was learned that Musser had not been seen or heard from since Saturday, August 19. The coroner said Musser’s crash occurred that evening and that the man likely died immediately following the crash due to the severity of his injuries.
The incident remains under investigation.
