EFFINGHAM COUNTY, Ill. (WTWO/WAWV) – I-70 westbound in Effingham County is back open after three semi-trucks collided in a construction zone on Saturday.
In a press release from the Illinois State Police, the crash happened near milepost 103 in a construction zone. At the time, only one lane was in use.
One semi came to stop in traffic. A second semi was slowing down behind and was struck in the rear by a third semi that failed to stop. The second semi was pushed into the stopped semi.
As a result, westbound lanes of traffic were shut down and traffic was diverted off onto Route 40 until a tow truck arrived.
There were no reported injuries.
The road has since reopened.
