ROCKVILLE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)– Update: Indiana State Police have cancelled the Silver Alert for Betty Jane Capps of Mecca. No official identity of the human remains mentioned in this story has been released at this point.

When speaking with WTWO regarding the remains, Parke County Sheriff Jason Frazier said he thought news of the discovery would help the family.

“This is a tragic end to this case. I spoke with the family yesterday.  I think this will give them some answers and some closure. I sensed some relief when I told them what we’d found,” Frazier said.

Frazier said it appeared that Capps’ vehicle had been attempting to turn around near the area when it ran off the road and into the ravine.

Original: Police are investigating after human remains were found near a Parke County home on Sunday.

According to a release from the Parke Co. Sheriff’s Department, a local realtor was showing a property around 5:00 p.m. when they discovered a vehicle approximately 200 yards off the roadway, near an embankment. Human remains were found near the vehicle, which belonged to Betty Jane Capps, a Mecca woman who was declared missing in July. No official identity has been released at this point.

Indiana State Police and the Parke Co. Coroner’s office are investigating the incident. This is a developing story, and we will post updates when more information becomes available.
