TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — How many trees have been planted in Terre Haute since 2010? How many have been removed?
These are some of the questions that will be answered during a tree re-inventory in the city.
The Terre Haute Board of Public Works brought in Great Lakes Urban Forestry Management to conduct the data collection. The group will be looking at each tree located on city streets and making note of the tree’s location, species, size and condition.
This data, the team said, will be of great benefit to the city’s urban forestry management.
“They’ll know what condition their trees are in, how many trees they have, what kind of work they need to do on the trees,” Jon Carlson, Tree Risk Management Consultant, Great Lakes Urban Forestry Management, said. “They’ll also have a prioritized maintenance list they’ll get from the inventory data.”
The crew will also be marking spots where future trees could be planted.
