DNA used to identify victim in Vermillion County fatal collision

VERMILLION COUNTY, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — A week after a head-on crash on U.S. Highway 36 just west of SR 63 resulted in a fatality, the victim has been identified.

Vermillion County Sheriff Mike Phelps on Wednesday reported that the victim of the crash was identified through DNA as Sarah Nicole Murphy, 38, of West Terre Haute.

Deputies were notified on the evening of April 28 of a crash on Highway 36 at CR 500 S with entrapment and a fire. 

A witness said that a vehicle crossed the center line, over-corrected and lost control of the vehicle. Two people were involved in the collision and the survivor was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Indiana State Police accident reconstruction is on the scene assisting in the investigation.
