(WTWO/WAWV) Some exciting news about a blind Sullivan County man attempting to climb Mt. Everest. He made it.
Lonnie Bedwell lost his sight in a hunting accident several years ago. WTWO spoke with him at his home in Dugger just before he left to begin climbing the world’s tallest peak.
He trained multiple hours a day, for months to prepare.
The climb started at the beginning of April. According to the organization helping Bedwell, “Sightless Summits”, after a very windy, snowy and cold night, he made it to the top Monday, May 22.
“Sightless Summits,” said Bedwell is only the fourth blind person to reach the top.
