TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV)– Families in Vigo County got a chance to celebrate the outdoors with the “Hawthorn Hayrides” event.

The event is hosted by the Vigo County Parks and Recreation Department, and gives residents the opportunity to have some family fun Saturday afternoon at Hawthorn Park. A $3 entrance fee helps the parks department provide additional programming.

Recreation coordinator Emily Starbuck said she thinks it can help promote the benefits of spending time outdoors.

“Frankly it’s just important to get people outside, and to keep people in the parks. The parks are great for your mental health,” she said. “It’s great to get out and see the fall weather, changing leaves, all that good stuff.”

There will be a Halloween-themed hayride at Fowler Park on Oct. 28th.
