TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – Gyms are preparing to handle the potential surge of new memberships as people look to fulfill their New Year’s Resolutions.

Stan’s Fitness Center Manager Kevin Selby said that January is one of the busiest months of the year for the gym.

“So this time of the year it gets very busy,” Selby said. “We usually up our membership thirty to forty percent.”

The rush of new guests is something that Selby and Stan’s Fitness Center is used to. Selby stressed the importance of working with new members closely as they begin their fitness journey.

“We’re very private practice so we’re very hands on with everybody that comes in so we always know a little bit about our members,” Selby said. “We’ll take them through the equipment and show them how to use it to help them get started.”

Beyond just more people at the gym, Selby stated that he’s excited to be able spread the importance of health and physical fitness throughout the community.

“We get to impact so many more people and so many new people trying to start off getting into fitness that may know nothing about it,” Selby said.
