SULLIVAN, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — Work is underway to create a new pool in Sullivan.
Parts of the old pool have been removed including the slide, diving boards and cement decking.
The new pool will have the same footprint as the old pool built in 1963, but with added upgrades like water features, a rock wall and shaded areas.
The old pool served the community for more than 50 years. It closed in 2018, because it was in need of several repairs.
“We’ve definitely got our life out of the Sullivan City Pool and what a great opportunity and just a great time and with so many good things going on here in the City of Sullivan to give it life,” Mayor Clint Lamb said.
An official groundbreaking for the new pool will take place on Thursday, August 19 at 3 p.m.
The city hopes to open the new pool in the summer of 2022.
You can still make a donation for its construction through the Wabash Valley Community Foundation.
