Greene County native named ISP Bloomington District Trooper of the Year

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – A Greene County native has been named the Indiana State Police Bloomington District Trooper of the Year.

The honor was bestowed upon Trooper Caleb Garvin by Lieutenant Paul Bucher.

Garvin is a 2008 graduate of Eastern Greene High School and is originally from Bloomfield. He graduated from the Indiana State Police Academy in December 2015 and has primarily patrolled Greene County.

Garvin previously worked as a jailer for the Brown County Sheriff’s Office for 5 years and served as a Reserve Officer for the Ellettsville Police Department for 4 years before becoming an Indiana State Trooper.

Garvin has an associate degree in Law Enforcement from Vincennes University.

In 2019, he produced almost 400 traffic contacts, 10 OWI arrests, 328 criminal arrests (192 of which were felonies), 101 criminal defendants and investigated 72 criminal cases.

Garvin has been a member of the Bloomington District ACES since August 2017 and works closely with the Indiana State Police Drug Enforcement Section.

Trooper Garvin also stays involved with his alma mater, Eastern Greene Community Schools, serving as a safety officer and mentor to students there regularly.
